Meet and Greet

Network Bangla started off 2009 where they left off with a well attended informal event called ‘Meet & Greet’ on Sunday 18th January. The venue was the popular Poppadom Express in Rusell Square. The event brought in so many new faces to Network Bangla as well as welcoming back members who had attended previous events.
The event kicked off with an informative presentation from Executive Directors, Koyes Ahmed and Sulthana Begum, updating the members on Network Bangla’s achievements to date and goals for the year ahead. As is usual for a Network Bangla event, the attendees included people from all over the country including the Midlands, West Country, Manchester, Luton, Reading as well as London. The presentation was followed up by a delicious buffet allowing people to enjoy their food as well as mingle and network with fellow attendees.
Network Bangla has a strong charity spirit so lunch was followed by a presentation by Sabiha Khan from Interpal and a heart warming video from Gaza. Buckets were passed around that enabled a reasonable collection to be made on the day, to support the humanitarian aid that Interpal was providing to the civilian victims of the war in Gaza. It was also an opportunity for Network Bangla to launch its Charity Initiative – an initiative to provide members a way of donating regularly to current causes.
To end the event a quiz was presented by committee members Nadia Shahanaz Hussain and Zubair Ahmed, bringing out the competitive edge in our guests. But this was a quiz with a twist; guests had to make donations with every incorrect answer, which allowed for more money to be raised for the chosen charity.
Altogether it was another successful event, kicking off the year with a positive vibe, so make sure you keep eyes and ears open to see what is in store for the rest of 2009!
