Sulthana Begum Executive Director
Sulthana Begum, a Law graduate from Queen Mary University of London, completed the Legal Practice Course with BPP in Central London and is currently working as an Immigration Caseworker at a law firm in Old Street. Sulthana is also working in the youth development sector, focusing young people on learning to use IT creatively through web designing and digital graphics. She is also a key developer of Newham Young People Online (NYPO), a youth scheme based in East London facilitating discussion forums and national achievements such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award for young people living in the local area. Sulthana's experience in community work is vast, starting from the anti-bullying project she co-led while at school after successfully securing funding from the Prince's Trust, to working with a local girls' group which allowed her to achieve the Millennium Volunteers' Award of Excellence and through to facilitating a Creative Writing Circle at college, which earned her the Jack Petchey Award. Sulthana has also been volunteering for the Witness Service for a few years, providing victims and witnesses with much needed practical, legal and emotional support during their time in court.
Dr Koyes Ahmed Executive Director
Dr Koyes Ahmed qualified from Barts and The London, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry, with an MBBS and BSc (Hons) in Experimental Pathology in 2007, and now works at the Great Western Hospital, in Swindon. At university, Koyes founded the Queen Mary Bengali Society in December 2004, was President until June 2006, and was also the former Vice-President of Student Assisted Medical and Dental Applicants (SAMDA). During his time at Queen Mary, Koyes was awarded a certificate for 100 Hours Community Service, Student Union Colours for 2005 and 2006, and a nomination for Queen Mary Society 'Personality of The Year' in 2006 - one of only three students out of over thirteen thousand to receive such an honour. Back in his home city of Bristol, Koyes has helped with community health projects, and aims to continue doing this whilst working as a doctor. During his elective in India, Koyes trained at the KJ Somaiya Hospital, and also volunteered at an orphanage in Asia's biggest slum - Dharavi - in Mumbai. More recently, after undertaking a course in 'Advanced Life Support', Koyes was nominated by his teachers for an instructor position, and will be undergoing training to teach doctors, nurses and other health care professionals, life saving skills in the future. Aside from helping others and socialising, Koyes has a keen interest in sport, and is an avid supporter of Liverpool FC.
Abdul Hasnat Non-Executive Director
Abdul Hasnat, founder Network Bangla, was brought up and educated in the heart of London's most diverse and rich multicultural community, Tower Hamlets. Abdul has a Masters degree in Information Technology and is a qualified Further Education Lecturer, working with a college for adults in the City of Westminster. In the 5 years at the college, he has closely worked with the Learning Centre and Curriculum, promoting the use of technology in teaching and learning. Abdul has a keen interest in E-learning and technology and its use in addressing differentiation in education. During his free time, Abdul enjoys listening and performing in Hindi music. In 2004, he founded the Collingwood Football Club, a local project for junior youth, set up to help engage and build bridges between communities - a born and bred Arsenal fan! |
