Prothom Barshiki
Network Bangla celebrated it's one year anniversary in dramatic style following a fun-filled, hectic and highly entertaining August this year.
The month began with Network Bangla's one year anniversary event - Prothom Barshiki - held on Sunday August 3rd 2008, in the splendid surroundings of the grand Mantra restaurant, near Tower Bridge, London.
The spectacular event was celebrating the fantastic achievements of the organisation over the previous year, and was Network Bangla's eighth event in the past twelve months
Sulthana Begum and Salah Ahmed (Rubel), - the event's presenters - kicked off the proceedings in style, welcoming the diverse range of guests, of all ages and backgrounds, who had travelled as far afield as Birmingham, Bristol, Cheltenham, and Manchester. This was followed by a beautiful, modern rendition of the Bangladeshi National Anthem - 'Amar Shonar Bangla' - performed by Akthar Miah and Ahmed Adlan.
Dr Koyes Ahmed and Husne Begum then went through the achievements of Network Bangla over the last year, during an informative presentation on the organisation, explaining the aims and objectives, detailing the events and projects that Network Bangla had been involved in, and citing the numerous charities that the organisation had raised money for.
A wide variety of acts then followed, including a moving nasheed recital from Asif Chowdhury, an absolutely hilarious sketch from the much-loved comedy duo Rahib and Ahsan, a dazzling kathak dance from Abraham, and a splendid performance from the band 'Khansar' (led by the brother of Bengali singing sensation Suzana Ansar).
Amongst the outstanding entertainment on offer, guests were also treated to some excellent speakers, including the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Mr Aziz Rahman (Director General of the BBCC), the Swadhinata Trust, and 'Families Relief' - the charity which Network Bangla were deservedly supporting through the event.
After a sumptuous buffet, there were also guest appearances from the BBC News reporter Tasmin Lucia Khan, and former Apprentice 'favourite' Tre Azam - both of whom announced the lucky winners of the charity raffle. The event then culminated in a brilliant networking session, and ended a thoroughly enjoyable and fantastic day out for all.
